The Battle of Okpo was a battle of the first phase of the Seven Year War between Japan and Chosun (Korea). Arriving at Okpo Bay, the Korean Navy waited until all of the Japanese Navy was aboard their ships and began firing cannons. The commander Yi Soon-Shin instructed his ships to form a single line formation and fire at the enemy,hoping to use longer cannon range to defeat the Japanese. The Korean navy's cannnons caused so much destruction and havoc among the enemy ships, it is said that the Japanese did not have a chance to strike back. The naval battle of Noryang Point was the final battle of the Imjin War between the allied Korean and Chinese fleets against the Japanese navy.
The battle took place on December 16 (November 19 in Lunar calendar), 1598.
However, Admiral Yi suffered a gunshot wound, and died shortly thereafter during the battle.

On May 7th, Korean navy under two admirals destroyed Japanese fleet in the Battle of Okpo, which was the first naval battle for both co-commanders.
At the Battle of Chilchonryang, Korean navy was destroyed, and Won, who tried to escape by land, was killed by surrounding Japanese.
The battle opened the route for Japanese to advance to Yellow Sea, and Todo set up the plan to attack Hanyang from both land and sea with Kato Kiyomasa and Konishi Yukinaga.
