The Battle of Stralsund was a battle between the Danes and Prussians forces on one side and Swedish forces on the other, on October 19, 1715 in Stralsund. The Pomeranian port, Stralsund, was besieged by an army of Prussians and Danes, 36,000 strong. The Prussian forces were led by Frederick William III, and Danish forces were led by Frederick IV. The port was defended by a Swedish garrison under Charles XII. In three months the Prussians and Danes were successful in seizing the island of Rügen, which commanded Stralsund. The Swedes attempted to retake the town. During the attempt, Charles XII was wounded and barely escaped, while his whole force was either killed or captured. On October 10, the allies caputed the hornwork. On October 20, the port was no longer defensible. Charles XII left for Sweden, and the garrison soon surrendered.
