The Battle of Tashkessen was a battle of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. It was fought between the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Empire on December 28, 1877. The battle occurred after Shakir Pasha's retirement. The Russian forces were commanded by General Kourlov, while the Turkish forces were commanded by Valentine Baker, a British-born general. The battle resulted in a Russian victory but with heavy casualties. It has been suggested that Romanian War of Independence be merged into this article or section. ...
