Bay is a region (gobolka) in southern Somalia. Its capital is Baydhabo. It is bordered by the Somalian regions of Bakool, Hiiraan, Shabeellaha Hoose, Jubbada Dhexe and Gedo.

Somalia continues to be divided in terms of political, military and economic developments, with some areas of the country experiencing impressive political development and economic recovery and other areas continuing to be plagued by many of the characteristics of crisis and complex emergencies.
As a result, it is difficult to generalise about Somalia and an accurate analysis must account for three broad categories of political and economical realities in the country: zones in crisis, zones of recovery and zones in transition.

Bay region is usually the bread basket of Somalia, where 7% of the country’s land produces 60 to 70% of the sorghum.
The failure of rains this season and a plague of crickets has decimated the sorghum crop in the region, a great shock to farmers after a bumper harvest last year - most of which was sold and trucked to Mogadishu.
Failed rains pose a frequent challenge to farmers in Somalia and widespread malnutrition among children is the norm rather than the exception.
