Bay View is a village located in Erie County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 692.


The village consists primarily of summer homes (many converted to year round use) and a few small businesses. The community has a scenic view of Sandusky Bay.


Geography

Bay View is located at 41°28'10" North, 82°49'26" West (41.469349, _82.823974)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 692 people, 292 households, and 195 families residing in the village. The population density is 921.3/km² (2,372.6/mi²). There are 351 housing units at an average density of 467.3/km² (1,203.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.27% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.72% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 1.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 292 households out of which 25.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.5% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.9% are non-families. 27.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.87.


In the village the population is spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 29.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.5 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $41,167, and the median income for a family is $48,977. Males have a median income of $39,722 versus $22,721 for females. The per capita income for the village is $19,596. 4.0% of the population and 3.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.5% of those under the age of 18 and 1.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
