Bayview is a census-designated place located in Humboldt County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,359.


Geography

Bayview is located at 40°46'4" North, 124°10'53" West (40.767795, _124.181276)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,359 people, 936 households, and 586 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,230.8/km² (3,203.0/mi²). There are 981 housing units at an average density of 511.8/km² (1,332.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 83.68% White, 0.59% Black or African American, 4.87% Native American, 2.16% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 3.65% from other races, and 4.87% from two or more races. 7.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 936 households out of which 30.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.6% are married couples living together, 13.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.3% are non-families. 28.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 3.00.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.0 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $26,023, and the median income for a family is $32,941. Males have a median income of $27,542 versus $22,463 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $14,119. 23.1% of the population and 20.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 33.9% of those under the age of 18 and 14.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
