Be, Incorporated was the company that developed the BeOSoperating system and BeBoxcomputer. It was founded by Jean_Louis Gassée in 1990 and its assets were bought by Palm, Inc. for US$11 million in 2001, at which point the company entered dissolution. The company then initiated litigation against Microsoft for anti_competitive business practices, specifically the prohibition of OEM's to allow dual_boot systems containing both Microsoft and non_Microsoft operating systems.
The suit was settled in September2003 with a US$23.25 million payout to Be, Inc.
In addition to BeOS, Be also produced BeIA, an ill-fated OS for internet appliances. It was however used commercially by Sony and DT Reasearch, amongst others, during its short lifespan.
Be's corporate offices were located in Menlo Park, California; as well as regional sales offices in Japan. The company has however relocated to Mountain View in California for the duration of its dissolution.
Origin of the Name
According to several sources including Macworld UK, the company name "Be" had its origin in a conversation between Gassée and Be co-founder Steve Sakoman. Gassée originally thought the company should be called "United Technoids Inc.", but Sakoman disagreed and said he would start looking through the dictionary for a better name. A few days later, when Gassée asked if he had made any progress, Sakoman replied that he had gotten tired and stopped at "B." Gassée said, "Be is nice. End of story."
Ince Blundell is a village community of 2,258 acres situated half way between Liverpool and Southport, just off the main A565 and is today part of the Borough of Sefton.
Ince Blundell Village however, predates both Liverpool and Southport by many hundreds of years and is perhaps one of the oldest settlements in Merseyside.
Blundell was the name of the predominant landowners and was added to Ince in 1367 to distinguish between the Ince near Wigan and the Ince near Warrington.
Ince admitted his demotion to the bench played a part in his decision to pull out the squad but insisted that he acted on a combination of issues and did not mean to slight Beenhakker or his replacement, Dundee goalkeeper Kelvin Jack.
Ince, who was then making a name for himself with El Dorado Senior Comprehensive, had been called into an individual meeting with Trinidad and Tobago under-18 coach Bertille St Clair to explain what he hoped to achieve from their World Youth Cup bid and beyond.
Ince was solid as a rock on a day in which Everton enjoyed the better of the running and threatened the goal on several occasions.
