She was born in London and has lived in Lisbon since her childhood. She acts with Lisbon's Cornucópia Company as well as at the National Theatre. In 2000, Batarda graduated from London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama with an honours degree in acting. She was awarded a gold medal for Best Actress of the Year and appeared on stage in London in Beyond a Joke by Christopher Morahan.
