Located at Kilometre 1,934 (historical mile 1202) of the Alaska Highway, close to the Alaska-Yukon border, it is Canada's westernmost community. The community's main employers are a Canada Customs post, the White River First Nation and a number of tourist lodges. Beaver Creek, just a few kilometres from the Alaska border on the Alaska Highway, is the most westerly settlement in Canada.
