Synopsis

After a box of carrots is dropped into the middle of a jungle in Tasmania, Bugs pops out, wondering how he went from sleeping in a carrot patch to the middle of Tasmania. Suddenly, a group of animals (both wild and domesticated) come running through the woods, scared for their lives. A crocodile (who turns himself inside out into a bag for a disguise) hands Bugs a booklet talking about the Tasmanian Devil and the many things it eats.

While Bugs is going through the list, the Tasmanian Devil comes roaring in and greedily says that it 'especially' eats Rabbits. Bugs is able to temporarily fool Taz into thinking he's a monkey, which Tasmanian Devils don't eat (though, ironically, one of the animals seen running for its life was a monkey). However, Taz soon starts chasing Bugs again. After losing him, Bugs gets caught by Taz and is trussed up while Taz makes a large salad. Bugs tells Taz that the best meal to have with a salad is 'wild turkey surprise'. Taz, wanting to try it, undoes Bugs. Bugs throws some sticks of dynamite together, lights the fuses and dresses the 'legs' up to look like they're from a turkey. Taz gobbles the dish, but doesn't seem too harmed from the explosion in his stomach.

When Taz starts chasing Bugs again, Bugs runs into a Trader's store and pulls some items off the shelf to dress himself up as a Tazmanian She-Devil. Bugs 'makes out' with Taz (by using a bear trap as lips), but then a woman she-devil comes in (presumably Taz's wife, though this is not made clear) and pulls Taz away. Bugs comments, "She's a nice lady. Yeesh!"

Tasmanian Devil (524 words)
The Devil devours everything in sight, including boulders, trees, shrubs, and hills, all the while whirling about like a miniature cyclone that sounds like a dozen motors all whirring in unison.
It is this hunger that would serve as the impetus for McKimson's 1954 cartoon "Devil May Hare[?]".
McKimson would go on to direct four more Tasmanian Devil cartoons, beginning with "Bedeviled Rabbit[?]" in 1957.
Theology Today - Vol 48, No.4 - January 1992 - ARTICLE - John Updike and the Funny Theologian (5489 words)
Rabbit, Run (in which we see the rejection of God's covenant) and The Centaur (in which we see the acceptance of God's covenant) explore the vertical dimension of the covenant, and Of the Farm explores the horizontal dimension.
Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom is now in his mid-twenties and saddled with an unimaginative job and an even less imaginative wife who, pregnant for the second time, has recently taken to drinking and watching TV incessantly.
Feeling trapped by this inglorious net of external circumstances, Rabbit bolts for freedom, displaying at once the rodentine characteristics of his nickname and the Pascalian "hardness of heart." While thoroughly animalistic in his ways, Rabbit is nevertheless bedeviled by spiritual urgencies.
