Beecher City is a village located in Effingham County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 493.


Geography

Beecher City is located at 39°11'13" North, 88°47'9" West (39.187030, -88.785737)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.3 km˛ (0.9 mi˛). 2.3 km˛ (0.9 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 493 people, 191 households, and 132 families residing in the village. The population density is 211.5/km˛ (544.9/mi˛). There are 217 housing units at an average density of 93.1/km˛ (239.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 99.39% White, 0.00% African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.20% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 191 households out of which 38.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.7% are married couples living together, 13.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% are non-families. 26.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.11.


In the village the population is spread out with 32.3% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 16.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 88.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.5 males.
