Recording the song

The original version of "Been a Son" as recorded in 1989 contains a bass guitar solo. According to Steve Fisk, the producer who helped Nirvana record the song, bass player Krist Novoselic did not like the sound of the bass solo. This could be the reason why the song was later re-recorded with a guitar solo instead. Fisk also said of Nirvana and the recording session: "They really liked the studio's monitors because they were so huge-sounding. When 'Been a Son' was done, Kurt and Krist asked, 'Can we dance on the tables?' They jumped on one table and I jumped on another, and as we listened to the song, we rocked." The term was widespread during the life of Jesus, as Roman emperor Augustus was known as the "son" of the deified Julius Caesar including on coins minted in his reign.
In Judaism the term "son of God" is rarely used in the sense of "messiah." Psalm 2 refers to God's appointed king of Zion as both God's messiah and as God's son.
In modern English usage, the Son of God is almost always a reference to Jesus Christ, whom traditional Christianity holds to be the son of the Judeo-Christian God, eternally begotten of God the Father and coeternal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit: God the Son.
