Encyclopedia > Beghilos
It has been suggested that Calculator Spelling be merged into this article or section. (Discuss)

The Beghilos is a cutout of the latin alphabet, which contains the nine characters B,E,G,h,I,L,O,S and Z. "G" is avaible both as lower and upper case letter. Image File history File links Please see the file description page for further information. ... Calculator spelling is a technique of spelling words using a calculator equipped with seven-segment displays of different technologies, including but not limited to LCD, VFD, LED, Panaplex, etc. ... The Latin alphabet, also called the Roman alphabet, is the most widely used alphabetic writing system in the world today. ...

The specific characteristic of this miniature alphabet is the fact that it can be displayed upside down by almost every numeric display (seven-segment display). By that, devices that work with such a display type can output (and save, if there is sufficient memory) a limited amount of expressions. A seven-segment display (sometimes written as 7-segment display) is a form of display that predates the now ubiquitous dot-matrix displays. ...

A few displays do not show the horizontal line of the digits 6 and 9 which causes "G" to become an inverted "P" and "g" transform into "d". That's why they cannot display the Beghilos properly.

  • The lower case "g" is equal to the inversion of the upper case "G"

Examples

Numeric Value: Output (Digits): Output (Characters): Expression:

  • Expressions that end up with an "O" (e.g. Zoo) aren't correctly displayed in most cases because most numeric systems ignore zeros in front of numbers (lack of algebraic importance)

Sentences

In contrary to modern scientific calculators, simple or anterior scientific calculators cannot handle full terms such as . They only can execute operations with two parameters. To calculate such terms without writing down the subtotals, most scientific calculators feature interlacing with brackets. By closing the brackets you get more and more words of the sentence.

Note: The algorithm needed to create a sentence out of multiple Beghilos-Words is discovered easily. However, a quicker possibility is the application listed at "Links".

The Beghilos-Characters are already actively applied in certain devices that use numerical displays (unturned) to output system notifications (e.g. "Err 4" as error code), function terms or similar. Usually the whole usable range of the display is used then, whereby A, b, C, c, d, F, H, N, n, o, P, q, r, U and u also can be counted to the presentable amount of characters.

Discovery

Up to now, there is not much known about the discovery of Beghilos. Probably it was used for the first time within a fun intelligence test that contained a gimmick calculation by which always the same value could be calculated and read as a word with the above mentioned method.
