The last MGM musical of legendary producer Arthur Freed, director Vincente Minnelli, and librettists Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Bells Are Ringing (1960) is a worthy swan song for them all, though its main asset is the irreplaceable Judy Holliday, in her last film role before succumbing to breast cancer five short years later.
Bells Are Ringing works best when the focus is on Ella's unique relationship with the subscribers, which really should have been the focus all along.
Filmed in Panavision (though officially presented in CinemaScope), Bells Are Ringing has been mastered in its original 2.35:1 theatrical aspect ratio in 16:9 anamorphic wide screen.
