Belvedere is a census-designated place and suburb of North Augusta, South Carolina, is located in Aiken County, South Carolina, and is a part the Augusta, Georgia metropolitan area. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 5,631.


Geography

Belvedere is located at 33°31'55" North, 81°56'36" West (33.531985, _81.943338)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.2 km˛ (3.9 mi˛). 10.2 km˛ (3.9 mi˛) of it is land and 0.25% is water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 5,631 people, 2,245 households, and 1,567 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 554.6/km˛ (1,436.5/mi˛). There are 2,430 housing units at an average density of 239.3/km˛ (619.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 74.39% White, 23.64% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.52% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. 1.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 2,245 households out of which 32.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% are married couples living together, 13.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% are non-families. 26.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.02.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 91.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.3 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $36,045, and the median income for a family is $40,264. Males have a median income of $31,768 versus $21,374 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $16,336. 12.0% of the population and 11.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.3% of those under the age of 18 and 5.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
