Belvidere is a town located in Lamoille County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 294.


Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 83.2 km˛ (32.1 mi˛). 83.2 km˛ (32.1 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 294 people, 114 households, and 71 families residing in the town. The population density is 3.5/km˛ (9.1/mi˛). There are 194 housing units at an average density of 2.3/km˛ (6.0/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 99.66% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.34% from two or more races. 0.34% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 114 households out of which 36.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.3% are married couples living together, 2.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% are non-families. 24.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.14.


In the town the population is spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 34.4% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 101.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.1 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $44,583, and the median income for a family is $50,500. Males have a median income of $36,250 versus $25,500 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,081. 9.4% of the population and 8.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 16.9% of those under the age of 18 and 8.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Belvidere Mountain and Hadley Mountain are separated by the Burgess Branch of the Missisquoi River.
For regional geologists, the area is interesting due to the occurrence of the ultramafic rock within the ophiolite belt of the northern Appalachians, its association with a variety of metamorphosed mafic rocks, and the structural and metamorphic history.
The coarse grained amphibolite, exposed at the summit and above the silos on the east flank of the mountain, is a dark gray, banded massive rock composed of amphibole (barroisite cores, barroisite rims, (Laird, 1977)), epidote and garnet with lesser amounts of albite, chlorite, sphene, sericite, biotite and calcite.
