The earlier "satellite tour" was formalised by the PGA Tour in 1990 and was initially called the Hogan Tour in honor of late golfing great Ben Hogan. In 1990 there were thirty events, and the typical prize fund was $100,000. The name was later changed to the Nike Tour, and the the Buy.com Tour in naming rights deals. The current name is a result of the purchase of naming rights by the Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company of Columbus, Ohio. In 2005 there are thirty two events, with two in Canada, one each in Australia, New Zealand and Panama, and the others all in the United States. The prize funds range from $450,000 to $750,000, which is about one tenth of the level on the PGA Tour. The PGA Tour also has nearly 50% more events.
