History Originally suppose to be called North East Ogden High School with the school colors as black and red and the mascot being the spikes (a reference to the golden spike driven in to the Trans Continental rail road. However at the very first assembly held on the floor of the wood shop (the school was yet to be finished) the students offered up their opinion they. Proposed that since the school was closest to Ben Lomond it should be named hence. "We weren’t going to Ogden High and we didn't want to be called Ogden high" one student recalls fifty years later. After being renamed the scot became the Scot natural mascot and the school's colors were changed to red white and blue the colors of tridotnal Scottish uniforms. Ben Lomond High School gets its name from the nearby Mt. Ben Lomond which was named by Scottish settlers. The mountain resembled their own Ben Lomond in Scotland near Loch Lomond. This local cultural influence gave the school its theme, including bagpipers, Scotts, and students are known as "Friendly Fighting Scots". The winner of this game gets to keep a trophy called the Iron Horse, the trophy is a small scale model of two trains crashing in to each other head on, one train reads OHS and the other BLHS, the base of the trophy is adorned with metal plats that read a year (1954-2007) and the name of the school that held that that year.
