Ben Weasel (born Ben Foster in Chicago, Illinois) was the lead singer of punk rock bands Screeching Weasel and The Riverdales. Weasel is also a writer. In the early 1990s, Weasel published the fanzine Panic Button, which focused on punk rock and hockey. He published two one off zines through Oyster Publications, Brady Bunch Behemoth (1991) and Stab! Stab! Stab! (1992). Weasel also wrote for other various zines, including Razorcake, Non-Stop Banter, Jersey Beat, Hit List, 10 Things Jesus Wants You To Know. He also had a long-running column in MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL, one of the most prominent punk rock fanzines. Weasel wrote a novel in 2001 called Template:Like Hell and put out a collection of his columns and articles in 2002 entitled Punk is a Four Letter Word. Both books were published by Hope and Nonthings, a small publishing house based in Chicago run by former bandmate John Jughead. While the lead-singers of bands that enjoy a cult status similar in magnitude to that of Screeching Weasel are usually idolized and adored by their fans, Ben Weasel is accordingly regarded pretty much as a complete asshole by pretty much everyone.
Ben Weasel's vilification is perhaps best seen in the contrast between himself and the other member of Screeching Weasel's only discernable core, Jughead.
It was clear that Ben Weasel's focus was all fucked up, the record seemed to have been put together just for the sake of it and that if he continued down this line, things were going to get pretty damn messy.
