Sir Benjamin Chilley Campbell Pine was, in official terms, Western Australia's eighth Governor, although he never actually took office. He was appointed to the position in July 1868, but shortly afterwards a vacancy occurred for the Governor of Antigua, and it was decided that he should fill that position instead.
Alas, I have no information regarding Benjamin's forebearers but am very interested also because I am a descendant of BenjaminPine.
My line going back with me, Granville Whitelaw Pine, born 1941 to Granville Martin Pine (1915-1994), Rosswell Dean Pine (1885-1971), William Granville Pine (1848-1916), John Pine (1818-1907), William Pine (1780-1872), Samuel Pine(1753-1783), BenjaminPine (1717-1775).
I would be interested in anything you might have that is pertinent to this line.
On 30 July 1868, Pine was appointed by letters patent to the position of Governor of Western Australia.
Pine served as Governor of the Leeward Islands from 1869 until 1871.
He concluded that the appointment by letters patent, together with the publication of that appointment in the newspapers of the colony, legally implied that Pine was Governor of Western Australia, even though he never arrived at the colony and was never sworn in.
