Benton is a town located in Lowndes County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 47.


Geography

Benton is located at 32°18'22" North, 86°49'3" West (32.306248, _86.817551)1.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 km˛ (0.3 mi˛). 0.8 km˛ (0.3 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 8.82% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 47 people, 18 households, and 14 families residing in the town. The population density is 58.5/km˛ (153.4/mi˛). There are 19 housing units at an average density of 23.7/km˛ (62.0/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 76.60% White, 23.40% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 18 households out of which 38.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.2% are married couples living together, 5.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.7% are non-families. 16.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 2.87.


In the town the population is spread out with 29.8% under the age of 18, 0.0% from 18 to 24, 34.0% from 25 to 44, 19.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 123.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 135.7 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $90,000, and the median income for a family is $92,113. Males have a median income of $41,250 versus $26,875 for females. The per capita income for the town is $28,035. 7.5% of the population and 7.7% of families are below the poverty line.
