Benton is a town located in Lowndes County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 47.

Geography

Benton is located at 32°18'22" North, 86°49'3" West (32.306248, _86.817551)¹.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.82% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 47 people, 18 households, and 14 families residing in the town. The population density is 58.5/km² (153.4/mi²). There are 19 housing units at an average density of 23.7/km² (62.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 76.60% White, 23.40% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 18 households out of which 38.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.2% are married couples living together, 5.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.7% are non-families. 16.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 2.87.
