Jump to: navigation, search

Benzocyclobutene (BCB) is the simplest polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, being composed of a benzene ring fused to a cyclobutene ring. It has chemical formula C8H6 and CAS number 4026-23-7. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, also known as PAH, are chemical compounds that consist of fused aromatic rings and that do not contain heteroatoms and that do not carry substituents. ... BCB is frequently used to create photosensitive polymers. BCB-based polymer dielectrics may be spun on or applied to various substrates for use in Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and microelectronics processing. Applications include wafer bonding, optical interconnects, low-K dielectrics, or even intracortical neural implants. Method for making an electronic module - Patent 5745984 (5067 words)
A multi-chip module is provided which utilizes benzocyclobutene as a laminate adhesive for bonding the upper dielectric films in a high density interconnect structure.
The benzocyclobutene thermosetting polymer is spin coated on a polyimide film, and baked at low temperature to remove any solvent to leave a B-staged coating on the polyimide film.
Illustratively, benzocyclobutene can be used as a laminate adhesive by coating BCB on a suitable film material, baking the polymer to B-stage, and then laminating over the desired structure.
Functionalized block copolymers - Patent 4968754 (2717 words)
The polymer of claim 6 wherein the selectively hydrogenated block polymer is obtained by hydrogenation of from about 80% to about 99% of the unsaturation present in the block of polymerized at least predominantly butadiene but no more than about 25% of the unsaturation present in the two blocks of predominantly styrene copolymerized with 4-vinylbenzocyclobutene.
The novel block polymers of the invention are produced from base polymers having at least one block of polymerized at least predominantly monoalkenyl aromatic compound and at least one block of polymerized at least predominantly conjugated alkadiene compound.
The relative proportions of the maleic acid compound and the block polymer reactants is not critical although it is generally desirable to provide sufficient maleic acid compound to react with substantially all of the benzocyclobutene moieties of the block polymer.
