First appearing in 2001, the Beretta 9000S was designed for the US concealed carry market. In order to be attractive to Beretta 92 owners, the larger magazines of the Beretta 92 can be used in the Beretta 9000S using a grip adapter. The Beretta 9000S is also the first Beretta pistol that uses a tilt down barrel locking mechanism based somewhat on the original Browning design.
Specifications
The compact frame is made out of polymer in order to save weight. The carbonsteelbarrel bore is hard chromed for reduced wear and ease of maintenance. The slide is made out of carbon steel. Like on the Beretta 92, the slide is an open top design as to reduce the number of extraction failures. The barrel locks into the slide through the use of two locking wedges.

The Beretta 9000S is a compact pistol designed for law enforcement and the US concealed carry market.
Design advantages
The 9000S is quite compact and can use Beretta 92 magazines. The pistol is very easy to clean and is fitted with a good safety.
Limitations
The main limitation of the 9000S is its tilting barrel lockup mechanism. While simple, it is somewhat less reliable than the systems used on the Beretta 92 and 8000 series. The Bruniton finish inside the slide will wear off quickly, increasing slide to frame play.
