History
First appearing in 1994, the Beretta 92 Stock model came into being on the demand of combat shooting competitors.
Specifications The Beretta 92 Stock is fitted with the heavy Brigadier slide but reverts back to an ambidextrous frame mounted safety based on the Beretta 92. In combat shooting this is useful as this way all shots can be fired in single-action with no variation in trigger pull. Thus like the original Beretta 92, the Beretta 92 Stock is a single-action pistol with a double-action capability in case of a misfire. Unlike a standard Beretta 92FS the Berreta 92 Stock is fitted with a front barrel bushing to increase its accuracy. Intended market The Beretta 92 Stock is a pure sports pistol, used for IPSC and other pistol sports.
Design advantages The Beretta 92 Stock is designed for high volume combat shooting. Like other Beretta 92s, it is very reliable and with its single-action trigger a fast shooting pistol. The Beretta 92 Stock safety levers are very fast to operate, enabling a proficient sports shooter to fire two shots in less time than is required to fire a single shot out of a typical double-action first shot pistol like the Beretta 92FS. Because the Beretta 92 Stock is built with fewer parts it is somewhat more reliable than a Beretta 92FS. The barrel bore is hard chromed which reduces wear and corrosion. Limitations Some amateur shooters believe the Beretta 92/96 series pistols have limitations, including not being well suited for use in deserts, jungles and arctic areas; the need for greater spring maintenance and cleaning over other designs; and the belief that the Bruniton® finish wears down quickly which leads to corrosion and more slide to frame play.
