The Berkeley Post Office was opened in 1853. There were three churches in Berkeley; the Presbyterian Church, the Anglican Church and the United Church. Only the United Church is still standing, although closed at present due to high maintenance expenses.
The manor embraces nearly thirty parishes and is one of the largest in England; it was given by William the Conqueror to Roger de Berkeley, Lord of Dursley.

Berkeley is the name of several places, all eventually deriving from Berkeley, Gloucestershire, UK, from whom the noble family of Berkeley derive their name, and for which several vessels of the British Royal Navy have been christened "HMS Berkeley Castle".
