Berkey is a village located in Lucas County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 265. It is a quiet and safe place to raise children.


Geography

Berkey is located at 41°42'52" North, 83°50'0" West (41.714400, _83.833392)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 10.8 km² (4.2 mi²). 10.8 km² (4.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 265 people, 98 households, and 81 families residing in the village. The population density is 24.5/km² (63.5/mi²). There are 100 housing units at an average density of 9.2/km² (23.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.11% White, 0.00% African American, 0.75% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. 0.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 98 households out of which 39.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.4% are married couples living together, 10.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.3% are non-families. 15.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.04.


In the village the population is spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 3.8% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.8 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $60,500, and the median income for a family is $65,313. Males have a median income of $46,000 versus $31,875 for females. The per capita income for the village is $25,944. 0.0% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line.
