He published "L'Antiquite Expliquee" in 1722. It contained copper plate folio engravings of classical antiquities. It included a depicition of "Barberini Vase" more commonly known as the "Portland Vase".

In a letter written by Josiah Wedgwood on June 24, 1786, he explains that he had seen Montfaucon's engravings of the "Portland Vase".
