Bertogne is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. On January 1st, 2004 Bertogne had a total population of 2,822 (1,424 males and 1,398 females). The total area is 91.67 kmē which gives a population density of 30.78 inhabitants per kmē.
The municipality of Bertogne (3,002 inhabitants on 1 July 2007; 9,167 ha) is located in the north of the Province of Luxembourg, at equal distance of Houffalize, Bastogne and La Roche-en-Ardenne.
Bertogne, from ber, "a height", and onia, "a settlement", was already inhabited in the Gallo-Roman times, as evidenced by the remains of a Roman cemetary.
Bishop of Liège Notger ceded the domain and the church of Bertogne to the Sainte-Croix church in Liège, which was confirmed by Emperor Henri II on 5 April 1005.
