The town calls itself the "Apple Capital of Nova Scotia", and a large apple sculpture is found in the centre of town. No one really knows why they call themselves the apple capital for there are very little apples. There is a poorly built skatepark that is often vandilized

NovaScotia has reduced it's sales tax from an effective rate of 11.8 per cent to 8 per cent which amounts to a provincial tax cut of $120 million.
