The station opened as Edgewater Beach Station in 1918, but was rebuilt to by architect Charles P. Rawson when the Northwestern Elevated Railroad Company raised the tracks between Wilson and Howard onto an embankment in 1921. The name was changed to Berwyn in the late 1950s.
