Beryllium is a metal and its chemical symbol is Be; beryllia is a ceramic and its symbol is BeO.
The goal of this project was to measure the thermal conductivity of two candidate materials, beryllium and beryllia, for the conduction path in the silicon detector.
The measured conductivity of beryllium was 215.6 and that of beryllia was 246.6 W/m-K. The percentage error of the beryllium and beryllia graphs is estimated to be approximately fifteen percent based on the nonlinearity of the points as compared to the aluminum and copper graphs.
