Elsa Beskow (née Maartman) (February 11, 1874 - June 30, Swedish author and illustrator of children's books. Beskow is the most well known of all Swedish children's book artists and her books are continually reprinted. Many of her books are classics. Beskow also illustrated ABC books and songbooks for Swedish schools. Elsa married the multi-talent Natanael Beskow in 1893. They had six sons.

The son of a priest, Beskow graduated from secondary school in 1883 and got a degree in theological philosophy at Uppsala University in 1884.
Beskow was the headmaster of the newly-established co-educational school in Djursholm from 1897 to 1909.
Beskow was often engaged in leading negotiations, and became a prominent negotiator.
