Cebalrai (arab. "shepherd dog") or Cheleb is the designation of the star Beta Ophiuchi (beta Ophiuchi). Cebalrai has an apparent brightness of +2,8 mag and belongs to the spectral class K2. The distance of Cebalrai amounts to approx.. 84 light-years (Hipparcos data base).

At a distance of 5.94 light-years (1.82 parsecs), the fourth nearest star and the second nearest star system to the Sun, after the trinary system of Alpha Centauri.
It lies in the northernmost part of the constellation Ophiuchus, west of Cebelrai (Beta Ophiuchi), and was discovered in 1916 by Edward E. Barnard.
Being a red dwarf, it cannot be seen from Earth without the aid of a powerful telescope.

Zeta Ophiuchi (ζ Oph / ζ Ophiuchi) is a star located in the constellation of Ophiuchus.
Although ζ Ophiuchi is a hot blue giant star it appears reddish due to interstellar dust that absorbs much of its light.
ζ Ophiuchi is roughly half way through the initial phase of its stellar evolution and will within the next few million years expand into a supergiant star before ending its life in a spectacular supernova.
