Elnath (or El Nath), is a star in the constellationTaurus. Its Bayer designation is β Tau (Beta Tauri). Its apparent magnitude (visual brightness) is 1.7 and its spectral type is B7. Its distance from Earth is approximately 130 light_years. The star is close to the boundary of Taurus with the constellation of Auriga, and old star maps sometimes allocate it to that constellation instead.

BetaTauri (β Tau / β Tauri) is the second brightest star in the constellationTaurus, with apparent magnitude 1.7.
Because it is on the boundary of Taurus with Auriga, it also has the redundant Bayer designation Gamma Aurigae (γ Aur), which is today very rarely used.
