Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, located in Boston, Massachusetts, is one of the three major teaching hospitals affiliated with Harvard Medical School.
It is the flagship hospital of the Caregroup Healthcare System of Massachusetts, and was formed out of the 1996 merger of Beth Israel Hospital (founded in 1916) and New England Deaconess Hospital (founded in 1896).
After the merger, the hospital was split up into two campuses, the east (Beth Israel) and the west (former Deaconess).

Beth Israel Congregation considers itself to be an "Area Synagogue" with members coming from the immediate Florence area and numerous outlying communities within a sixty mile radius.
