Comden and Green was the writing duo of Betty Comden and Adolph Green. They wrote lyrics and books for musical stage plays, and lyrics and screenplays for movies. They worked with several musical collaborators, including Jule Styne and Leonard Bernstein.
Comden, whose more than 60-year collaboration with Adolph Green produced the classic New York stage musical "On the Town," as well as "Singin' in the Rain," considered by many to be the best movie musical ever made, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, her attorney said.
Throughout their partnership, Comden and Green performed together on stage, most notably in their two-person show "A Party with BettyComden and Adolph Green," which was first done on Broadway in 1958 and periodically revived over the years.
Comden was born in Brooklyn in 1917, Konecky said, the daughter of Leo and Rebecca Comden.
BettyComden and Adolph Green were the writing duo (billed as Comden and Green) who penned the screenplays and songs for some of the most beloved musicals, particularly as part of Arthur Freed's production unit at MGM during the genre's heyday.
BettyComden was born Elizabeth Cohen in NYC on May 3, 1917 (see [1], [2]) although many sources incorrectly cite 1915 as her year of birth.
BettyComden and Adolph Green received Kennedy Center Honors in 1991.
