Meaning of the Name

The town is called Between because it is between two of Georgia's largest cities — Atlanta and Athens are the exact same distance to Between. It is also between Walton County's two largest cities, Loganville and Monroe.

MATTHEW THOMAS DALTON; Taught music lessons and sang through out Walton, Gwinnette and Barrow County, also for his church. He was a star route carries, carried mails from Campton, Monroe, Between, Snellville, and slept in Loganville, Georgia between 1870 to 1910. Edgar Dalton, born May 7, 1905, Hwy 11 of Monroe,Ga. said when the first store was built in Between, Ga., the owner did not know what to call the store. Matthew know as "Bud" Dalton, knew the people that owned the store for he had been carrying mail on horseback at that time. later Dr Dewitt Briscoe remembers Uncle "Bud" on a two Wheels wagon in early 1900. Pauline [Smith} McElhannon remembers riding with her grandfather, whe she was a little girl, carring mail to these towns and singing in churches around 1905. He had stop sevenal times asking about the name of the store. Finally Matthew Thomas Dalton told the owner that they should call the store Between. Ga. (The Postmaster of Monroe got the credit for names Between, Ga.) "Bud" M. T. Dalton is buried at New Hope United Methodist church Between Ga, 9The families is kin to the Baker and The Black and other in the cemetery at Between. Matthew, son Thomas Jeffers Dalton dug the first well in Between, Ga. Clarence Thomas Dalton 1641 Cedar Road Watkinsville, Ga.
