The term we know as heaven is the Old-English translation of the two original words in The Bible - the Hebrew word in the Old Testament is pronounced shaw-may, and the Greek word in the New Testament is pronounced oo-ran-aws.
Hell was an Old-English word that, at the time when the classic King James Version was translated in 1611, meant simply the grave, or a hole in the ground.
The word hell was used by the KJV translators, and many others ever since, for a number of different original Hebrew or Greek words of The Bible.
