The supernatural concept is generally identified with religion or other belief systems —though there is much debate as to whether a supernatural is necessary for religion, or that religion is necessary for holding a concept of the supernatural.
Proponents of supernaturalism claim that their belief system is more flexible, which allows them more diversity in terms of epistemology (ways of understanding knowledge.) For example, scientists accept the findings that the Earth and universe are many billions of years old.
