Bharath Gopi (also spelled "Bharat Gopy") is a Malayalam language film actor and winner of India's National Film Award for Best Actor (known as Bharath award at that time) for Kodiyettam. He was born in 1937 in Chirayankil, Thiruvananthapuram(Trivandrum), Kerala, India. His real name is V. Gopinathan Nair. His first movie was Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Swayamvaram in 1972. He has also acted in two Hindi movies, Aghat and Satah se udta admi. Gopi is a film director and producer as well. His Yamanam was awarded Best Film on Social Issues by the National Award Jury in 1991. Gopi was paralyzed by a stroke in 1986, at the peak of his career. He was awarded the Padmasri in 1991. Recipient of several regional, national and international awards, the thespian wrote "Abhinayam Anubhvam", for which he got the national award for the best book on cinema.
