Bharathidasan University is a university in the city of Tiruchirapalli, Tamilnadu state, India. It has almost 200 affiliated colleges in several different districts of the state, including Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Tiruchirapalli. It is a recognised university, supported by the University Grants Commission of India and has been accredited with five star status by NAAC. All major faculties of science and arts are represented. The University has twenty six academic Departments and supporting facilities including a Central Library, Computer Centre, Internet Centre, Auditorium, Gymnasium, Yoga Centre, Pavilions, Hostels for boys and girls, Canteen etc. The infrastructure spread out in 1000 acres (4 km²) are connected by arterial roadways and boulevards.


Bharathidasan Univerity has been a pioneer in the field of computer science and was the first to start an MCA programme in the country. The National Facilty for Marine Cyanobactreia (NFMC) at the university is a DBT funded venture established in the lines of National Institute of Immunology, Delhi. The Center for Non-Linear Dynamics is another specialized center in the University whose contributions are acclaimed worldwide. The University's sole Bhatnagar Award Winner Prof.Lakshmanan heads this center. Bharathidasan University in its attempt to impart high quality education in fields that would make a difference started the School of Engineering and Technology (SET). SET offers B Tech courses in Biotechnology, Information Technology, Petrochemical Technology, Pharmaceutical Engineering and Automobile Engineering apart from the M Tech courses in collaboration with the School of Energy.


The Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM) located in the BHEL campus is the university's management school and ranks among the top 15 Business schools in the country.


CAMPUSES

Bharathidasn University has four campuses:


Main Campus - Spreading around 1000 acres, the main campus houses most of the departments and administrative buildings


Khajamalai Campus - Downtown campus of 500 acres. The centre for Distance Education, The School of Energy and the Institute for Enterpreneurship and Career Development (IECD) are located here.


South Campus (Engineering campus) - Adjacent to the Main campus (500 acres).The home of the Bharathidasan Institute of Technology (formerly School of Engineering and Technology). The multi-purpose indoor stadium is also located in the south campus. Bharathidasan Institute of Technology (formerly known as School of Engineering and Technology) was established by Bharathidasan University in 1999 with a view of imparting quality education in the field of engineering. ...
