Bharmal or Raja Biharimal was fifth son of Raja Prithviraj or Prithvi Singh I of Amber (1502-1527) and later became ruler of Amber.He was born around 1499 at Amber.His father had 19 sons with four queens.Some of Bharmals brothers died young while some did not have any issue.His mother Apurva Devi was of Rathore clan,hailing from Bikaner royal family.He was fourth son from his mother while eldest son of Raja Prithviraj was from Tanwar queen.His father Raja Prithviraj was ruler and head of Kachwaha clan of Rajputs.His father was son in law of Rana Raimal of Chittor and fought at the Battle of Khanua in Rana Sanga's favour.Bharmal is more known for marrying his daughter, Heera Kunwar or Jodhabai to Akbar the Mughal emperor of India.He was first among Rajputs to marry a girl with a Mughal. Early Period

His father died in 1527 CE the same year of the battle of Khanua.According to rule of primogeniture, his eldest brother Puranmal succeeded the throne.The political scenerio at that time was very uncertain.The Rajput confederacy led by Rana Sanga sufferred great loss in the battle of Khanua.The Mughal power was not firmly established in India.There were other Muslim rulers, who were gaining power to oust Humayun, the son of Babur out of India.Bahadur Shah of Gujrat and Sher Khan (later Sher Shah) suri were prominent among them.Puranmal was the first person to realize that Mughals were trustworty.They were not like the old stock of Muslim rulers.This fact was also realized by Rani Karmawati of Chittoor the widow of Rana Sanga, who sent Rakhi to Humayun to protect her kingdom at the hands of Bahadur Shah of Gujrat.But however it was Puranmal who first offerred services of Rajputs to Mughals.Bahadur Shah was persuing a policy of expension.He helped and sent Tatar Khan Lodi to occupy the fort of Bayana.He occupied the fort of Bayana which was in Mughal occupation since the time of Babur.Humayun sent his brothers Askari and Hindal to recapture the fort.Puranmal the Raja of Amber fought in the battle called the battle of Mandrail in favour of Mughals.This was in the year 1934 AD.Next year Bahadur Shah of Gujrat besieged the fort of Chittoor, upon which Humayun himself started to fight against him.Rani Karmawati the widow of Rana Sanga was ruling Chittor as regent.She also tried to be friendly with Mughals and sent a Rakhi to Humayun, but Humayun did not arrive in time.If he would have arrived in time and helped Karmawati,perhaps it would have been Sisodias as their close allies.However it were Kachwahas who became the first allies of Mughals in Rajputana.Bharmal's policy towards Mughals was merely extension of his brothers policy. His Coronation

His eldest brother Puranmal died at the Battle of Mandrail in 1534, while helping Humayun recapture the fort of Bayana.He had a son "Surajmal" or "Sooja".But however he was not recognised as king and his younger brother "Bhim" sat on the throne of Amber.
