Bibai (美唄市; -shi) is a city located in Sorachi, Japan.


As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 30,145 and the density of 108.59 persons per kmē. The total area is 277.61 km&sup2.


The city was founded on April 1, 1950.

The city of Bibai is located near the center of the Ishikari Plain on Hokkaido, where the annual snow accumulation is more than 8 meters—higher than most other places on the island.
Year after year, after every snowfall in Bibai the extra snow had to be collected and placed in designated areas until the spring, when more work was done to melt it.
In 1997, the Bibai Natural Energy Research Association was established and given the job of discovering how to use the snow.
