The Bible Broadcasting Network (BBN) is a listener-supported global Christian radio network staffed and headquartered in Charlotte, NC. The network was founded in 1968 by Lowell Davey (who also serves as the organization's current president) and broadcasts daily prayer times, children's programs, Bible teaching, teen programs, and family guidance programs.[1] The station also plays traditional Christian music including vocalists, choirs, and instrumentalists. BBN's mission statement is "to get the Word of God into the hearts and minds of as many people as possible using the most efficient means." Doctrinally, the programming is Evangelical in approach but not overly Calvinistic. BBN also avoids programming geared towards "signs and wonders", "charasmatic", and "prosperity theology". is the 275th day of the year (276th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. ... BBN's Purpose

Simply stated, BBN's purpose is to get God's word into the hearts and minds of people using the most efficient means. BBN does not consider radio is not a business but a ministry. They believe the programming must be warm, friendly and informative and must present the truth. BBN indeed produces about 20 % of its own programming. About 30 % of the time is filled with Christ centered music. The music played makes listeners truly feel God's presence. Half the broadcast day is filled by outside ministries that buy time on many other Christian stations. But they air totally free on BBN. BBN does not sell any ad time whatsoever. They also do not get money from donations sent to the outside ministries from a BBN station's listening area. BBN is also non denominational BUT they endorse church membership in a Bible Believing church. Theologically, BBN is close in belief to a Conservative Baptist Church or a Bible Church. They are somewhat Calvinistic, but reject the doctrine of "The Elect". They tend to endorse the King James Bible, but do not subscribe to the "King James Only" belief. Many religions have religious texts which are sometimes described as the Word of God. ... Though they reject Pentacostalism, they accept such believers as Christian brothers and sisters. Also, while very opposed to Roman Catholicism, they also believe there are some Christians within that religion.

History

On May 28, 1968, BBN president Lowell Davey made an offer to purchase a radio station in Norfolk, Va. "We sense the need of a quality station that is Christian oriented and has quality music, both classical and Christian," he said in a letter. Davey was not able to buy that station, but the idea of BBN was under way. Official incorporation took place about a year later, on March 28, 1969, when BBN bought a radio station that had gone bankrupt and was off the air. "Through several miracles," Padgett said, BBN started with that Norfolk station. WYFI began on Oct. 2, 1971, at 5 p.m.
