Biddu, full name Biddu Appaiah, is a music producer and songwriter. He has worked with popular English-language disco and funk artists like Tina Charles ("I Love to Love", 1976) and Carl Douglas ("Kung Fu Fighting", 1974) during the 1970s. Back home in India he was a massive live draw as a singer, in a kind of easy-crooning style, but the market simply wasn't there for a man of his ambition. Jacking it all in, he hitchhiked from India to England where he had decided his fortune was going to be made. He also released largely famous instrumental tracks under the name Biddu Orchestra, including a rendition of "I Could Have Danced All Night" from "The King and I" and a remake of Neil Diamond's "Girl You'll Be a Woman Soon". The song 'Kung Fu Fighting' was made in the last 15 remaining minutes of Biddu's studio time. The song was made just to utilise that time. Biddu did not take the song as a very significant one and so put it on the B-side of an album. A sharp producer noticed the strong potential of the song and insisted it to be on the a-side of the album and the magic it created was seen by the world. 'Kung-Fu Fighting' sold more than ten million copies around the world and till date remains one of the best songs in the Disco World.
