Encyclopedia > Big City Network

Big City Network is the name given to a network of Independent Local Radio stations across Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland all owned by EMAP. Since EMAP's acquisition of Metropolitan Broadcasting in 1998 there has been gradual brand integration such as a standard logo and websites. Most stations are primarily focused on youth music and whilst each station is still nominally separate there are an increasing amount of network-wide programmes such as Friday Night Kiss and similar competitions on the different stations. Also some of the Big City Network stations have sister Magic Radio stations broadcast from the same locations. BIGpedia - New York City - Encyclopedia and Dictionary Online (7823 words)
New York City (officially named the City of New York) is the most populous city in the United States and is at the center of international finance, politics, communications, music, fashion, and culture.
The city is at the heart of the New York Metropolitan Area, which, with over 22 million people, is one of the largest urban conglomerations in the world, and is the epicenter of both the Tri-State area and the BosWash megalopolis.
New York City, sometimes called "The City That Never Sleeps," is famously fast-paced and active, and the American idiom "in a New York minute" means "immediately." The stereotypical "hard-boiled New Yorker" has a reputation as self-centered, rude, and impatient, and takes pride in the crowds, noise, and hardships of city life.
New York (city) - Hutchinson encyclopedia article about New York (city) (3317 words)
The most populous city in the USA, located on an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean in the far southeastern corner of New York State; population (2000 est, excluding suburban metropolitan areas under separate administration) 8,008,300.
New York is composed of five city boroughs that are also counties of New York State: Manhattan (New York County); the Bronx (Bronx County); Queens (Queens County); Brooklyn (Kings County); and Staten Island (Richmond County).
The city's port facilities have undergone great changes in the late 20th century; the piers along the Manhattan shore, which once formed the heart of the dock complex, have been abandoned in favour of special installations for containerized traffic in Newark Bay in the state of New Jersey, due west of Upper New York Bay.
