A couple of its major rivalries go back to its predecessor, the Big Eight Conference, and another was imported from the Southwest Conference. The Big Twelve Conference is a college athleticconference of twelve schools located in the central United States.
The conference was formed on February 25, 1994, when the former Big Eight Conference merged with four Texas schools that had been members of the Southwest Conference, which had just disbanded.
