Bike The Drive is a non-competitive bicycle ride, now in it's 5th year, along a car free Lake Shore Drive sponsored by the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation that, for the past several years, has taken place on on a the Sunday of Memorial Day weelend. Currently, the route extends from 57th street on the south to Hollywood Ave on the north. The route length is 15 miles long beginning at Columbus and Balbo in Grant Park (Chicago). Participants usually complete either one or two laps for a 15 or 30 mile ride. However, any number of miles can be ridden before the ending time. The ride will take place on May 28th, 2006. No changes to the route from the previous year. The announced times are that Lake Shore Drive opens at 5:30am and closes just before 10:00am. However, it's generally possible to start biking as early as 5:00, but the city will begin closing down the route as early as 9:30. New for 2006 - Multiple riders can be registered all at once.
- A Gold Package is now available at registration that includes Bike The Drive, Chicagoland Bicycle Federation membership and a registration to the Boulevard Lakefront Tour.
- A long-sleeve technical fabric shirt is now available for $25 which is only available when registering online. Quantities for these will be limited to 1,000.
- Action Sports International will be taking photographs during the ride as the official event photographer. Because of this, riders will be given helmet numbers to more easily identify them.
