Ponsford made his first-class debut in 1922, and soon became noted for his capacity to play high-scoring innings. In his fourth innings, he scored 429 runs for Victoria against Tasmania, which was the highest ever innings in first class cricket until he bettered it with 437 runs five years later. Until Brian Lara scored 400* against England in 2004, Ponsford was the only man to have played two first-class innings of 400 or over. He remains one of only three men to have scored four triple-centuries, along with Walter Hammond (also four) and Don Bradman (six). He holds the Australian record partnership for the first wicket (456 with Edgar Mayne), and his average of 65.18 is the fourth highest of any player with 10000 runs. In test matches, Ponsford formed a notable opening partnership with Bill Woodfull, but his most famous achivement occured in partnership with Don Bradman, together adding 451 runs agains England in 1934. This partnership was a world record until 1991, and remains the Australian record. Ponsford also scored centuries in his first two and last two test matches. Bill Woodfull is remembered for his cricketing record and in particular his captaining of the Australian Test Team during the infamous Australia v England “Bodyline” series in 1932 - 1933.
Bill Woodfull qualified as Bachelor of Arts with a Diploma of Education and was posted to the country, moving around the state until he achieved the top position of Principal at Melbourne High School.
Bill Woodfull ended the series scoring a total of 43 runs in the first two Tests, but his determination in the remaining three Tests resulted in innings of 73 not out, 67 and 67.

William Harold Ponsford (born 19 October, 1900 – April 6 1991) was an Australian cricketer, a batsman who twice broke the world record for the highest first-class score.
Ponsford made his Test match debut in December 1924, scoring 110 against a bowling attack including Maurice Tate and Tich Freeman, and he followed it up with 128 in the next match.
Ponsford retired after the Australians' tour, and thus had signed off with a hundred in each of his last two tests, just as he had signed on with a hundred in each of his first two.
