The proposal has come under criticism from ACT Shadow Attorney-General Bill Stefaniak, who has said it will be an "unmitigated disaster for the ACT", and that if the bill is introduced in the exact form recommended by the committee "it has the potential to bankrupt the territory in the next five years".
Stefaniak said that certain proposals are hard to interpret, such as the right to an adequate standard of living, and unviable, such as the right to the highest attainable standard of health.
Stefaniak has said that there is no demand in the community for the bill, although this was dismissed by the Chief Minister’s spokesperson, who said that support for the bill is at over 60%.
